THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACT OF 1996 The Telecommunications Act of 1996 by definition : To promote competition and reduce regulation in order to secure lower prices and higher quality services for American telecommunications consumers and encourage the rapid deployment of new telecommunications technologies. (3) The Telecommunications Act of 1996 (ââ¬Å"the Act,â⬠P.L. 104-104) was the first major revision of communications law since 1934. Most importantly, the Act replaced a patchwork of judicial, FCC, and state regulations with a coherent, pro-competitive national telecommunications policy that seeks to bring the information age to all Americans. Introduction to Studying French Verbs
Introduction to Studying French Verbs Most French students are impressed with French verbs. So letââ¬â¢s talk about them, and the terms used to explain how we shouldà conjugate French verbs. What is theà Verb? A verb indicates an action. It can be physical (to walk, to run, to go), mental (to think, to laugh)à or a condition or a state (to be, to have). A verb is conjugated to agree with (to match) its subject: He does, she has, they were, as opposed to the incorrect he do, she have, they be. What is Person in Grammar? In grammar, person refers to the different pronouns used to conjugate a verb: I, you, he, she, it, we, they. Read more on Frenchà subject pronouns to understandà this concept better. What is Agreement? In French, some words are said to ââ¬Å"agreeâ⬠with each other. Its the same in English; you add an ââ¬Å"sâ⬠to the end of the verb for he / she/ it, as in: She singS. In French, it gets a little more complicated. In French, you have to change some words or parts of words (like the endings of verbs) to match other words related them.à à What or Who is theà Subject?à The subject is the person or thing that does the action of the verb.à There is an easy way to find the subject of a sentence. First, find the verb. Then ask: ââ¬Å"who verbâ⬠or ââ¬Å"what verb.â⬠The answer to that question will be your subject. A subject is a noun (Camille, flower, room) or a pronoun (I, you, they). A noun can be a person, thing, place or idea. Examples:à I paint.Who paints?Answer: I paint. ââ¬Å"Iâ⬠is the subject. Camille is teaching French.Who is teaching?Answer:à Camille is teaching.ââ¬Å"Camilleâ⬠is the subject.à What is happening to Camille?Whatââ¬â¢s happening?Answer:à What is happening.ââ¬Å"Whatâ⬠is the subject (This one was trickier, wasnââ¬â¢t it?)à What is a Conjugation? Conjugation is the way a subject changes a verb so they agree (match). In English, the conjugation of verbs is quite simple. The verbs donââ¬â¢t change much: I, you, we, they speak; he, she, ità speakS. An exception: the verb to be (I am, you are, he is). It is not this way in French, where the verb form changes with almost every different person. Some verbs are called ââ¬Å"regularâ⬠because they follow a predictable conjugation pattern, such as adding an ââ¬Å"sâ⬠to the 3rd person singular, as in English). Some are called ââ¬Å"irregularâ⬠because their conjugation pattern is not predictable, like the verb ââ¬Å"to beâ⬠in English. The way French verbs are written and their pronunciationà are also very different, this is why I highly recommend you train with audio drills when learning French verbs. What is the Infinitive? The infinitive is the form of the verb before it is conjugated. Itââ¬â¢s the verb name, for example, ââ¬Å"to speak.â⬠In English, the infinitive is usually preceded by ââ¬Å"toâ⬠as in ââ¬Å"to study,â⬠but its not always this way, for example: ââ¬Å"can.â⬠) In French, there is no ââ¬Å"toâ⬠before the verb. The infinitive form is one word, and the last two or three letters of the infinitive will identify the type of conjugation pattern it follows, if the verb is regular. These letters areà usually -er, -ir or -re.à What is a Tense? A tense indicates when the action of the verb is taking place: now, in the past, in the future. A simple tense consists of only one verb form (ââ¬Å"I speakâ⬠).A compound tense consists of one or more verbs, including an auxiliary verb a main verb (ââ¬Å"I am speaking,â⬠ââ¬Å"I have been thinkingâ⬠). What is Mood? The mood indicates how the verb relates to the subject: Is the action a statement of fact (indicative mood) or something else like a command (imperative mood) or a wish (subjunctive mood). This will affect the conjugation of the verb. and, likewise, the conjugation will communicate the mood. à Whats the Best Way to Learn French Verb Conjugations? Learning French verbs is a long process, and you shouldnt learn everything at once. Start by learning useful conjugations in the present indicative of the most common irregular and regular French verbs. Make sure you get the pronunciation right. French is full of liaisons, elisions and glidings, and it is not pronounced as it is written.à If you are serious about learning French, start with a good French audio method. Read about how to select the right tools to self-studyà French. Your next step: Learning about French Subject Pronouns.

Employee relation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words - 1
Employee relation - Essay Example The unitary frame of reference is common among managers and it suggests the idea of unity, as the name implies. It means that all people in the organization are collectively working towards one goal with one central authority or managerial team. It also suggests that all the people working in an organization should have well-established ideas regarding the oneness of authority and conflict should be abhorred. In stark contrast, the pluralistic frame of reference suggests that each person working in an organization has varying interest, ideas, preferences, and opinions. There is no unity when responses are conditioned in such a way. Interest groups are formed within an organization and they have to struggle a lot for gaining their particular individual goals. Each group has drastically different interests and the managerââ¬â¢s role is to balance those interests effectively for achieving such objectives that are fruitful for an organization. Trade unions are made by the members of an organization themselves in order to protect their rights, interests and other betterment-oriented objectives. Most of the trade unions operate independently but some remain in constant contact with the employers in order to struggle together for achieving the same goals and desires. Now, the industrial or employee relations are based on the negotiation or discussion of those rights and demands of the employees that they want from their employers. Trade unionism has direct effects on the employee relations and it markedly molds those relations according to the nature of the scenario and the severity of the problems. According to (HRM Guide, 2010), the concept and significance of trade unionism is shifting now. The age of mass production is almost gone now and the present age is of individualism that does not support much the concept of trade unionism. This suggests that trade unionism is on a decline presently in most of the

Corporate Governance Lab Report Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words
Corporate Governance - Lab Report Example Capital flow seems directed towards the companies, which practice fair and transparent ways of governing their organisations. With the changing global business scenario the need of understanding and effective practise of fair and technologically advance corporate governance has also increased. ICAEW (2002) has explained corporate governance in a very effective and comprehensive manner as " Corporate governance is commonly referred to as a system by which organisations are directed and controlled. It is the process by which company objectives are established, achieved and monitored. Corporate governance is concerned with the relationships and responsibilities between the board, management, shareholders and other relevant stakeholders within a legal and regulatory framework." The discussion about corporate governance in Enron is based on the hypothesis that it was not the failure of governance mechanisms, which lead, to the collapse of Enron but the perversion of the governance model, which caused the disaster. Essentially, the basic issue was not fraud detection by the auditors but the alleged act of in concealment which done the damage. Nevertheless, there is still no conclusive empirical evidence in the literature about whether and how governance mechanisms influence the performance and the value of the firms; and, about how governance mechanisms interact (in a complementary or substitute way) (Bohern and Odegaard, 2003). Discussion: There has historically been a considerable difference between U.S. and U.K. owned corporations in their management and organisation. U.S. corporations have typically been more centralised, more professionally managed and [have had] more formalised bureaucracy. They have generally been seen as more aggressive and results-oriented. U.K. corporations placed more emphasis on relationships rather than formal controls, and appeared "amateurish" compared to their U.S. counterparts. Recent years have seen a considerable convergence of U.K. management styles with those of the U.S. Many of the largest British multinationals, such as GlaxoSmithKline and BP, have merged with or acquired large U.S. firms, and almost all leading U.K. companies derive substantial proportions of their revenues from the U.S. The differences in management style and culture have become far more nuance. Large British multinationals probably remain more international and cosmopolitan in their outlooks than their U.S. counterparts, slower to act and less inclined to adopt the latest management fads, and less ruthless in dealing with failure and under-performance. However, there is vast industry and firm differences. Both UK and US GAAP require purchase consideration relating to a business combination to be allocated to the net assets acquired at their fair value on the date of acquisition. Intangible assets: Under UK GAAP fair values are assigned to identifiable intangible assets only if the identifiable intangibles are capable of being disposed of or settled separately, without disposing of a business of the entity. Under US GAAP, identifiable assets

C-T-E - Essay Example The failure to identify, expressly, the conceptual model that a researcher used in his or her study leaves readers guessing within a studyââ¬â¢s conceptual context. It is not guaranteed that readers will guess the right conceptual model and they might end up not benefitting from such studies. Clinical judgment entails the use of information observed and recorded from a patient to make conclusions. This process helps in advising patients on how to improve their health. When promoting evidence-based research, clinical judgment involves patients in deciding the best practice to be adopted in intervention while taking into account their values. The situation is another thing that is considered in clinical judgment because different situations will come with unique sets of conditions. Clinical judgment is needed in different aspects in the clinical setting including communication, decision-making, therapy, and diagnosis (Kienle & Kiene, 2011). Continuous critical analysis, knowledge, experience, and practice are needed in the development of clinical judgment. These elements accounts for the differences noted between junior and senior medical practitioners in terms of their level of clinical judgment. Senior medical practitioners emphasize theoretical knowledge less than their junior counterparts do. Previous experience of cases and course of events is central to the level of clinical judgment exuded by senior clinicians whereas it is less important to the juniors. Senior clinicians are more likely to emphasize ethical and moral considerations when making clinical judgment more than junior clinicians do (Nilsson & Pilhammar, 2009). This made Kienle and Kiene (2011) to conclude that clinical judgment can be optimized and professionalized. This explains why new interns need intense supervision while on residency. Some interns have problems during clinical rotations and supervisors have to

Advertising is Manipulative Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Advertising is Manipulative - Research Paper Example People fail to realize that they are being exploited and led down the garden path, the cream has been selling like a hot cake for the last several years and it is mainly because of manipulative advertisement, they recruit models who are beautiful and convince people that an average looking person can also look like a model, this is highly unacceptable but it is successful because people have fallen for it in the past and will continue to fall for this in the future too. This is a classic example of manipulative advertisement, people are being manipulated into buying products that are of no use to them and will probably do more bad than good to them. This paper will shed more light upon the same and how advertisers are exploiting the naivety of the people and how they are misguiding the people into buying products that are absolutely of no use to them. The advertisers spend a lot of money on advertisements and the only way of recouping money is by manipulation and by selling products that never do even half as much work as they claim to do in the advertisements. Fair and lovely is not the only example, there are many more products that are being sold on a daily basis by misguiding the people. In todayââ¬â¢s cut throat competition companies often use aggressive advertising to push their products in the market. The essay will discuss ways and techniques in which advertising is used as a medium to push products thereby making it manipulative in most cases. With the advent of new products and technology, consumers are becoming sensitive towards their needs and businesses across the globe are finding newer ways to increase their turnover.
